Craft your next masterpiece with Reason Studios Reason 13, a music production powerhouse that turns your ideas into inspirational music. From the first beat to a finished album, Reason 13 features a virtual studio of synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, and effects, coupled with MIDI and audio tracks, and a dedicated mixer based on the world-class SSL 9000K recording console.
Reason 13 includes more than 30,000 patches, loops, and samples that are categorized and tagged for fast exploration. Spanning over 20 years of development, the library ensures you have access to the latest in-style sounds and vintage legacy sounds. The software is jam-packed with a massive collection of synthesizers, instruments, samplers, drum machines, audio effects, and much more arranged in the virtual rack. The rack can also be reversed, for access to the rear I/O panel, which offers numerous audio and CV connections for the ultimate in creative patching.
New in Reason 13
- All patches, samples, and loops are now in one place—the new Browser. Find the perfect sound by filtering on anything from name and folder to categories and tags. Just type what you’re looking for and the browser will give you suggestions, or use the Category and Tag buttons to filter your way to your new sound.
Tag, you’re it
- All content in Reason is now categorized and tagged to let you explore sounds in a whole new way. Patches, samples, devices, and plugins—anything goes. Use the built-in tags or create your own custom tags—finally covering your favorite niche genre. Reason 13 makes it easy to stay organized.
Sequencer upgrade
- The sequencer has been split in two. With the new Edit Area, it’s easy to get down and dirty with the details in your music without losing your way in the arrangement. Together with several new workflow improvements, improved zooming, layout changes, and easy access to editing features—the upgraded sequencer makes it effortless to make your music sound like you.
It’s got the look
- Reason 13 doesn’t just sound good, it also looks good. Together with the sequencer, the entire Reason interface has been updated. It might not necessarily improve your music, but it will make it easier to find your way around.
Polytone dual-layer synthesizer
- Polytone is a synth-lovers’ synth. Inspired by favorite vintage hardware, Reason Studios designed it to recreate the warm analog sounds you know and love. Polytone has two layers that can be stacked or morphed between for superfat or evolving sounds.
Ripley Space Delay
- Ripley combines delay and reverb with unique flavors of filtering, noise, and distortion. Coupled with extensive modulation you can create the delay you want—anything from clean taps or warm analog sounds to crazy lo-fi chirps or washed out ambiences. Everything that adds character and depth to your music.
Reason Tools
- Five new devices simplify common tasks for a smoother workflow, so that you spend less time on the boring stuff and more time making music—Sidechain, Gain, Stereo Tools, Note Tool, and Random tools.
The Studio
- Record, arrange, edit. Capture your playing or draw in notes and automation curves with the mouse. Then get into the details with quick access to all the editing features you need to make it the perfect (or imperfect) performance.
- Sequence pattern changes, edit multiple MIDI clips, curve automation, get the perfect groove with ReGroove, and transform your music with smart editing features and detailed control. Reason’s sequencer is fast, flexible, and fun.
Recording
- From a simple vocal take to a full band session, the recording workflow is easy and fast. No dialog boxes to break your flow. Need to nail a tricky performance? Comp Edit helps you stitch multiple takes together into a perfect one. You can even record first and pick a tempo later. Reason’s famous project-wide time stretch will change the tempo of your entire song while still sounding great.
Audio Editing
- With your audio recorded, it’s time to polish your tracks to perfection. Correct timing problems with Slice Edit—or mess things up further. Fix up your vocal recordings with Vocal Edit for detailed control over pitch, time, and articulation. And best of all, it sounds good—really good!
Mixer
- Accurately modeled after the famous SSL 9000k analog mixing desk, Reason’s mixer works just like the real thing. Complete with flexible routing, full dynamics, EQ, advanced effect handling, automation, group and parallel channels, and the famous master bus compressor. If the best studios in the world have it, why shouldn’t you?
Sampling
- All samplers in Reason are actually samplers. Hit the sample button and start recording straight into the selected instrument, bringing the lost art of on-the-fly sampling back again. So it’s time to dig out your toy keyboards, weird percussion, and vinyl collection, to give them new life inside Reason.
Blocks
- Intro, verse, chorus, bridge—if that’s how you think about your music, then Blocks will help you build your song. Create your parts as Blocks, and arrange them into a musical structure. With the basic arrangement laid out, you can easily create variations, mute individual parts, or add further musical elements on top.
Plug-ins
- Bring your favorite plug-ins to the Rack. Rack Extensions are fully integrated plug-ins specifically for Reason that sit perfectly among your devices—available in the Shop. Reason also hosts VST3 and VST2 plug-ins, so you always have access to any tools you want—to sound like you.
Sync
- Reason plays well with others, live or in the studio. Use Ableton Link to wirelessly sync your software or send MIDI clock from Reason to keep your hardware perfectly in time.
Control
- Play and control Reason with any MIDI controller. Just plug in your keyboard and start playing, or get hands-on with Remote for tight integration between Reason and your MIDI hardware.
- Control your hardware with MIDI out from Reason’s sequencer and Player MIDI effects. Hooking up a Player to sequence your gear is something you really need to try.
